Google Flow Frames to Video: Start and End Frame Guide
Frames to Video is useful when you already know how a clip should begin and end. Strong source frames and a focused motion prompt are usually easier to control than describing the entire transition with text alone.
What start and end frames control
A start frame defines the opening image. When supported by the selected model, an end frame gives Flow a destination for the motion or transition.
This workflow can animate a still, transform a product, change a setting, or connect two prepared compositions.
Prepare compatible frames
Use the same aspect ratio and corresponding subjects in both images. Large simultaneous changes in camera angle, lighting, and position often produce unstable intermediate frames.
For character continuity, create and approve both images from the same identity reference or ingredient workflow before generating video.
Prompt the transition
Describe what happens between the frames: direction, speed, camera movement, and environmental change. Do not repeat visual details that are already clear in the images.
Avoid several sequential actions in a short clip. One primary transition is more stable and easier to edit.
Check model and duration support
First-frame and first-plus-last-frame support varies by model. Google advises checking the current Flow model table because some combinations may still be marked as coming soon.
Select the model, aspect ratio, and duration before a batch run, then test one representative transition.
Organize many transitions
Name image pairs consistently, such as 01-start and 01-end, and keep their prompt under the same shot number. Attach the correct pair to each prompt before starting the queue.
Retry only failed transitions, then inspect opening, closing, and intermediate frames before editing.
